If you are planning to construct a swimming pool in your backyard or if you want to have some landscape infrastructure, then you would need the services of an excavator. Excavators are the ones in-charge to perform excavation services.

What is an excavation?

The meaning of excavation is actually quite complex. However, in this scenario, it is a part of construction work. This means that it is an act of performing an operation that involves movement of the soil, rock, or any other materials on the ground that requires the use of heavy equipment or facilities.

What are the services offered?

Depending on the excavation company, the services offered may vary. Examples of these are:

  • Site preparation – prior to any construction of houses or buildings, the excavation contractor would normally perform the clearing of the site and ensure that the soil is firm and solid. They would dig a hole in the ground wherein the foundation of the buildings is planted. Once it is constructed, the excavators would then backfill the area surrounding the foundation. This would ensure that the building or house being constructed is firmly rooted on the ground and does not easily collapse.
  • Moving dirt around – In excavation, they are actually responsible for digging the ground when there are swimming pools, fountains or ponds that need to be constructed. They can also build roads, create drainage and excavate dykes for gas lines or water lines. Sometimes when a pipe needs to be implanted beneath the ground, excavation experts are often called on to operate trenches.
  • Landscaping – whether it be residential or commercial buildings, landscaping cannot be completed without the help of an excavation company. They help move around debris or create barriers for erosion. They can help clear out your backyard and prepare it for landscape designs or maintenance.
  • Heavy Equipment – if there are huge amounts of heavy debris or dirt that needs to be excavated, the contractors would haul away the extra soil by using heavy duty equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, compactors, and the like.

What type of equipment is used?

The equipment used for any excavation work will depend upon the type of services that are needed. If it is for site preparation, the company might use a backhoe loader. They are commonly used in urban construction projects. If the activity consists of excavating underwater sediments and transferring them to another location, the equipment used is called a dredge. Other equipment includes an excavator, also known as a track hoe or a trencher.

Who should you choose?

Excavation work is not that easy. You need a company that knows the technicalities of how these equipments are being used and the purpose for each one of them. It is not just excavating dirt, but they also need to know which one they should pick-up.
